Program Note: We often talk about listening as though it is a very easy and passive thing to do, when in reality, some of the most rewarding listening experiences demand much of our energy. In Listening Out, I ask that each audience member pay close attention to what sounds they are listening to and focusing on the most, then release that information into the atmosphere by making sounds with their bodies. I call this reflective listening. My hope is that a beautiful musical conversation will emerge as instrumentalists and audience members listen intently and respond honestly.
