Program Note: "Love Letter" is all about extravagant, generous, risk-taking vulnerability. It is the internal dialogue of a passionate lover who sends a letter confessing their deepest affections to their beloved. The piece traces this character's emotional trajectory as they wait and wonder if this affection will be returned.

The piece begins with the tender, delicate, heartfelt act of writing the love letter. Then the lover drops the letter into the mailbox, where all control is whisked away from their hands...the lover is left to wonder and wait. The lover dreams optimistically, envisioning a future together with their beloved, and resolves to remain faithful to this love, no matter the beloved's response. A final surge of passionate emotion bubbles forth, perhaps the agony of waiting or the inability to express these feelings personally, until an inner quietude eventually emerges. The lover makes their peace with whatever may happen next, but still treasures the beautiful feeling of love in their heart.
